Sin leaves marks on us. Consider the alcoholic, who, after years of heavy drinking, gives his life to the Lord. Do all the wrinkles and marks of a hard life suddenly smooth out? Of course not. Paul tells us that we are to live our Christian lives by “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians:3:13). How can we expect to make any progress if we are continually spending all our time agonizing over the things of the past? May God lift our hearts and our eyes that we might learn to look less at ourselves and more at Him (2 Corinthians:3:18). —TBC
