If you were drowning and someone offered to pull you from the water, and you accepted that offer, would it be true that you had done anything to save yourself? Could you say that you had been saved by your own works, and thereby become proud? What, then, of those who receive Christ by an act of their will--was it because they were smart enough, loving enough, wise enough, righteous enough, or anything else enough? That I choose to accept the pardon God offers in Christ does not constitute any work on my part. It is all of God and all by grace. I can take no credit whatsoever! —TBC
