Biblical Eldership Booklet

(Abridged edition) Misconceptions surrounding the doctrine of eldership have caused a great deal of confusion in churches worldwide. The five distinguishing characteristics of New Testament Christian eldership are outlined and defined. From the back cover: And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. -Acts 14:23 [1] For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might set in order what remains, and appoint elders in every city as I directed you. -Titus 1:5 [2] Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you [elders] overseers, to shepherd [pastor] the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. -Acts 20:17, 28 [3] Therefore, I exhort the elders among you...shepherd [pastor] the flock of God among you, exercising oversight.... -1 Peter 5:1, 2 [4] Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing," and "The laborer is worthy of his wages." -1 Timothy 5 [5]: 17, 18 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. -James 5:14 [6]
