George Muller of Bristol - paperback

George Muller (1805-1898) is chiefly remembered for the orphanages he founded. These are the stories and life sketches of a man who lived as a witness to a prayer-hearing God. The Great Provider showed Himself able and willing to supply every need. First published in 1901.

From the back cover:

George Muller was living proof that God can be known intimately, that He is a faithful companion, and that prayer yields miraculous results.

This classic biography tells of George Muller's dependence on prayer and how his compassionate concern for the orphans in his hometown of Bristol, England, shaped decades of missionary and social endeavors throughout the world. With barely enough food or money to take care of his own family, Muller ultimately served and loved more than ten thousand orphan children.

When asked the secret of his service, Muller replied, "There was a day when I died, utterly died: died to George Muller...died to the world...and since then I have studied only to show myself approved unto God."

"Arthur Pierson not only recounts the inspiring story of George Muller's life, he distills principles of Christian living that transcend the generations....[This book] challenged me to become personally involved in efforts to help orphans and widows....Not only does one grow to love George Muller through this work, one grows in knowledge of, and love for, his faithful, powerful, and incomprehensible God."

-Rosemary Jensen, Executive Director, Bible Study Fellowship International

Arthur T. Pierson (1837-1911) served prominent pulpits both in America and Great Britain, preaching for two years at the Metropolitan Tabernacle following C. H. Spurgeon's death. He lectured at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois, and at Pierson Bible Institute in Seoul, Korea. He was one of the few Americans to speak at England's Keswick conferences. A consulting editor to the SCOFIELD REFERENCE BIBLE, he was also a contributor to the classic work THE FUNDAMENTALS.

The way God used this man

The way God used this man has continued to be an inspiration to many down through the years. The example set forth by George Muller and his orphanage (God's orphanage) is a clarion call for God's people to trust Him for everything, personally committing each care to God in prayer and not to lean on one's own understanding, nor on men or organizations for any need--however large or small (Phil 4:19).
