God's Pursuit of Man

Formerly titled The Pursuit of Man.

Admitting to having been forced by inward pressure and an unbearable burden to write it, Tozer's aim was to assure believers that if they want to know the power of Christ they must be invaded by God.

From the back cover:

"This little book of the spiritual way has not been 'made' in any mechanical sense, it has been born out of inward necessity....The sight of the languishing church around me and the operations of a new spiritual power within me have set up a pressure impossible to resist." —A.W. Tozer

On Essential Interiority: "If we would know the power of the Christian message,...the objective Reality which is God must cross the threshold of our personality and take residence within."

On the Human Will: "The deep disease of the human heart is a will broken loose from its center....The Holy Spirit achieves [an] inward cure by merging the will of the redeemed man with His own."

On Deity Indwelling Men: "Deity indwelling men! That, I say, is Christianity, and no man has experienced rightly the power of Christian belief until he has known this for himself as a living reality."

On Holy Living: "At the base of all true Christian experience must lie a sound and sane morality....The true Christian ideal is not to be happy but to be holy. The holy heart alone can be the habitation of the Holy Ghost."

"A 20th century prophet" they called him even in his own lifetime. For 31 years he was pastor of Southside Alliance Church in Chicago, where his reputation as a man of God was citywide. Concurrently, he became editor of Alliance Life, a responsibility he fulfilled until his death in 1963. His greatest legacy to the Christian world has been more than 40 books, including this one.
