[TBC: Here is another Atheist accusation of contradiction in the Bible]:
ON PUNISHING CRIME
"The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father..." -- Ezekiel 18:20 [1]
"I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation..." -- Exodus 20:5 [2]

[TBC: Here is a case where a course in "Remedial Reading" would offer hope. First of all, Ezekiel 18:20 [3] is pointing out the accountability of an individual for his own sin. This same principle is a part of our own justice system. Exodus 20:5 [4] is not addressing punishment for crime. It does point out, however, that there are consequences for sin. Sociologists note the prevalence of drunkenness or crime in certain families. The full verse is discussing idolatry and how the consequences of a father’s embrace of the same causes severe problems down through the generations. That is evident.]
