Stephen Hawking seems to agree with the point made in Lennox’s Aunt Matilda story, namely, that science [1] cannot answer the question of why there is a universe. As he asks of the universe, Hawking would say, “Why does Aunt Matilda’s cake go to all the bother of existing?”
