Mormon [1] Daniel C. Peterson (http://www.shields-research.org/Authors/dcp.html [3]) is a professor of Islamic Studies and Arabic at Brigham Young University (Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages). He also serves as editor-in-chief of Brigham Young University's Middle Eastern Texts Initiative ( http://maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/viewauthor.php?authorID=1 [4]).
 
In an August 11, 2007 feature, ("Book explores the life of Islam [2]'s founder" - Deseret Morning News, Professorl Peterson is said to be acquiring, "... a reputation for defending a faith that's not his own, but Peterson said he's OK with that role. 'I'm a very active Latter-day Saint, but I've found myself in this role of being a defender of Islam [2]. I just think somebody has to do something'"
