The church often does not understand nor realize how to gain God's blessing because we do not want hear God's word and warning thus we cannot receive His love, comfort and power. This statement marked the ministry of our dear brother, Dave Hunt. As Jeremiah was commissioned by the Lord "for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee saith the Lord. Then the Lord put forth his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth." Jeremiah:1:7But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
See All...b-9, so was Dave Hunt called. A man who had no theological degree, but had the Word of the LORD impressed upon his heart from years of studying it on his knees. Who needed no degree, because the Lord took him to the same school where he took Peter and John, who the "theologically" trained of their day, marvelled that they were able to speak such things, "because they had been with Jesus". The LORD gave Dave a clear vision of the enemy's devices and how the evil one desired to deceive, consume, and destroy the Lord's bride, and to whom God called to warn of these coming attacks--psychology, false religion in the name of Christianity, eastern mysticism, wolves and hirelings devouring the flock and the total denial of the authority of God's Word by those that claimed to follow it. However, Dave was not only called to warn the church, but he was also called to share the gospel with all who would listen and hear. Many did not want to hear Dave's message but wanted their ears tickled with words of peace and prosperity. Like Jeremiah, Dave was called where only a remnant would listen, but most would not have eyes to see or ears to hear, for their hearts were hardened and turned from the Lord and His Word. Like Jeremiah, as one reveiws the life and ministry of our dear brother, we can see he could say with Jeremiah "Thy words were found and I did eat them: and thy word was unto me joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts, I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation." Jeremiah:15:16-17 [16] Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
[17] I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
See All... As Jeremiah grieved, wept and cried out because of the impending destruction that was coming upon Judah because of her turning from the Lord, I remember seeing Dave's tears as he spoke of the church turning her back on the Lord, rejecting His word and forgetting her calling. There was real compassion and real tears for the lost and wayward. One incident stands out in my memory as examplimatic of Dave's calling and often the response to his message. It was in the early 1990's and Dave had been speaking at the Winnnipeg Prophecy Conference in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. The Sunday after the conference he had been invited to speak in one of the largest Baptist churches in Winnipeg. My wife and I went to hear Dave as he was going to speak on "How we could know the Bible was true and we can defend the faith." As the service began, it was evident the leadership and the people were not really concerned with the message Dave had. The service began at 11:00 AM. We sang some hymns, then a woman from the congregation talked about the upcoming women's retreat for 10 minutes, then we sang some 7-11 choruses (seven words eleven times as Dave liked to say), then more announcements, then special music, then a fews words from the pastor, then the choir sang, and finally at 11:55 the pastor said," We are privileged to have Dave Hunt with us today, who has recently been speaking at the Winnipeg Prophecy Conference." Dave now had a grand total of 4 minutes to present his message on "Defending the Faith". As many people know, it took Dave 10-15 minutes to warm up before the real meat of God's word would begin to flow. Dave had come to share God's Word, and share God's Word he did. He presented how important it was to be able to give answers to the hard questions so that our children can know God's Word is true and that they will not walk away from the faith when challenged by unbelievers. He then began to expound from the gospel of John about the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus and how we can know the Bible is 100% accurate. At this moment it was about 12:15 and an elderly man sitting in front of my wife and me yelled out, "Doesn't he know it's 12:15? We've got to eat!!" Dave did not stop but kept teaching till his point was made. At about 12:30 the service was dismissed. My wife and I decided we would stay back and give others a chance to visit with Ruth and Dave. To our shock, the pastor shook Dave's hand and ran for the door, the people rushed by Dave and Ruth standing in the foyer with hardly a word, and soon it was Ruth, Dave, my wife, daughters and me standing with a couple of church members whose job it must have been to lock the door. I look back on this incident and see that it was so typical of much of the "church's " response to Dave's message, they would rather run to fill their belly than be filled with God's Word delivered by God's servant. The church has seen a dear brother who was a true watchman on the wall go home. There are few watchman left like Dave Hunt. He, like Jeremiah, had no joy in warning of the impending judgment because of the growing apostasy, and he. like Jeremiah, was often met with rejection and words of anger. One day the church will understand what a blessing God sent to us when he allowed Dave Hunt to be our teacher, brother and friend.
