Religions News Service, 5/9/2003: TORONTO - Christ and Carlsberg. Heaven and Heineken. God and Guinness. The alliterative catch-phrases leap to mind as about 75 mainly young, well-scrubbed, professional-looking patrons gather at one of Toronto’s most popular watering holes for a night of beer, wine - and religion. Known for its creaky floors and fresh draft beer, the shabby but cozy Madison Pub, in downtown Toronto’s Annex neighborhood, may seem an unlikely venue for a night of serious talk about whether Christianity - or any faith - is still relevant, but organizers say the informiality of a barroom provides the perfect setting for a subject many young people today regard as forbidding, or just a bore. Ron Csillag’s report on how the popular Alpha course introducing Christianity to seekers is playing in one Toronto bar will move the week of May 12.
