The Day I Finally Got To Meet Dave

I subscribed to the Berean Call newsletter in 1996 and used to watch Dave's speaking schedule hoping to catch one of his engagements. Finally in the autumn of 2001, after having moved from southern Connecticut to Nashville, TN, I noticed Dave was speaking in Clarksville in November. This was the first location that wasn't logistically undesirable. My wife and I were sitting in the back of the large church where Dave was scheduled to speak along with several other speakers such as David Menton and John Ankerberg. Suddenly my wife gave me a nudge and directed my attention to someone who'd just sat down two seats to my right who I'd not noticed. It was Dave. He was reviewing his notes. I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote him a note. My note basically read, "Dear Mr. Hunt, name is Grant Schinto and I've been a Christian since 1992 which is the same year I discovered the book THE SEDUCTION OF CHRISTIANITY. I've read that book at LEAST 6 if not 7 times and own most of your books. I've read most of them more than once. You're by far my favorite author." I probably added some drivel about it being an honor to meet him. During a break in between speakers I introduced him to my wife and we chatted for several minutes. I don't recall too many details but one impression he made on me was that he had a good ability for remembering little things. My wife was having trouble w/ her ankle and later on during the conference he asked about it. Let me add that I did get to meet T.A. as well--he's not exactly chopped liver! I believe that was the last time Dave ever spoke in Tennessee. I remember saying to my wife that if nothing else "good" ever comes out of moving to Tennessee (which is of course absurd, but I was making a point) it was worth it because we got to meet Dave and Tom.
