But Dawkins needed genes to do a whole lot more than just be. And he didn’t even need to train them. They are devilishly clever on their own. Not only did they agree to go along with natural selection in support of that theory; they devised a clever scheme to cover the whole thing up by making it look like design to confuse theists. Of course, they let their friend Dawkins in on the plot, and he was so ecstatic that he couldn’t keep the secret. He is so proud to tell us that these tricky genes have created “an illusion of design so persuasive that it is almost impossible to distinguish from deliberate intelligent design.” Now that is ingenious!
