DAILY READINGS: Deut. 29; Amos 7-8; Luke:15:11-32

And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself...          —Lk 23:35

And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts and returned.       —Lk 23:48

At first they were mere spectators of another execution: watching on, indifferent, unaffected by the cruel torture. However over the next six hours they heard and witnessed things that touched them and possibly convicted them, like no other "sight" had ever done. What effect has the Christ of Calvary had on your soul? We would do well to linger long and often at the cross!
