Nuggets from "Whatever Happened to Heaven?" by Dave Hunt

It is a sign of the times that doctrine is largely neglected today. Serious doctrinal error has not merely "crept" into the church but is being taught openly by popular church leaders. The necessary correction of such men, rather than being recognized as vital to truth and the well-being of the church as a whole, is criticized as divisive. As a result, the cause of truth and the well-being of the church is at risk.

God's Word is sermonized, watered down, and played with, but it is rarely used for its intended doctrinal and corrective purpose. "Reprove, rebuke, exhort," Paul reminded Timothy, "with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine..." (2 Timothy:4:2,3). We seem to have arrived at that time in church history.
