Instead of an earthly garden that God visited on occasion in the cool of the evening, we have the promise of being in the very presence of God in the Father’s house of many mansions. Adam lost the indwelling presence of God’s Spirit, which he surely must have enjoyed before the fall; but we have the promise that we are sealed with His own Holy Spirit who will never leave nor forsake us. We are indwelt not only by the Spirit of God, but by the Spirit of Christ. This One, who is both God and man joined in one person, effects that union and reconciliation between us and God within our hearts— a union that will never be broken.
