We may not understand the “why” of our troubles, but we know from the Scriptures that there is a reason. Second Corinthians 12 very plainly states that God allowed Satan to buffet Paul, and Paul specifically asked God three times to remove his affliction, with God’s reply that “my grace is sufficient for thee” (2 Corinthians:12:9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
