Pragmatism in church growth (including being geared to psychological counseling, felt needs, entertainment, etc.) can lead to problems. One of the inherent risks is that a pastor or leader could be distracted from the prime focus of God’s own leading for him in his particular situation and mesmerized by another man’s success into an all-out implementation of someone else’s program. As always, it remains for any Christian to maintain discernment and a Berean perspective in the face of strong programs or example, inspired by what God is doing in someone’s life or ministry but not easily swept into its vortex.

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

Colossians:2:8
