PORTLAND - Imago Dei (Image of God) a popular evangelical church in Portland Oregon, considered an emerging church, is encouraging its congregation to “engage in Lent,” a time celebrated primarily by Roman Catholics.

The Imago Dei web site states; “Here are a few ideas on ways to creatively engage in Lent. With our focus this year on Solidarity with the Global Church, entering with Christ into the suffering of our world.”

The following example is offered as a way of engaging Lent. “Fast one or more meals a week, taking the budget you would usually spend on food and giving it to one of the following hunger organizations, while praying for those who are hungry.”
