In ancient times, a contract between two parties was sealed by both of them walking between the halves of severed animals. It was a solemn symbol of the depth of their individual commitment. After God promised Abraham a future, it was God who walked between the animals. He held Himself responsible to fulfill the promise. He is both Just and the Justifier and we stand amazed. —Jared Fraser
