From the January 14th entry in the upcoming "Apples of Gold" Calendar:

David and the other authors of the Psalms were very human individuals who experienced all the failures, shortcomings, fears, and trouble that we still face today. Nevertheless, they stepped out and, as a consequence, saw the Lord answer prayer, deliver them from tremendous difficulties, and protect them from great peril. This gave them a "track record" that they took with them for the rest of their life.
