Freedom from Religion Foundation case: "Intolerance on Steroids"

The Freedom From Religion Foundation has filed a lawsuit against the Mercer County Schools and the superintendent because they offer voluntary, opt-in Bible classes, which the Foundation claims is unconstitutional. Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute disagrees.

"Courses dealing with the Bible are constitutional," the attorney asserts. "The courts have found they are constitutional, so there's nothing illegal about having a Bible class in a public school or school district."

The FFRF reportedly launched this suit because one unnamed atheist parent complained that her child could be ostracized by other students for not participating.

"To say that you can have everyone else forced not to take the class simply because one parent of one student doesn't want their child to take the class is intolerance on steroids," Dacus submits.

The Bible study program is funded by an outside, nonprofit organization, not taxpayer money.
