Louisiana, like most other states, offers specialty license plates to drivers for an additional sum. Those funds are usually donated to the group or cause that the plates promote. Members of the group Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) are lobbying the state legislature to have a Gay Pride tag included among other specialty tags.
Sodomy ha[d] been illegal in the State of Louisiana for 197 years.
American Family Association of New Orleans director Kathleen Benefield says the most outrageous and disturbing aspect of the plate is that it is attached to a bill creating specialty plates for churches.
