Letting Israel know 'you're not alone' [Excerpts]

More than four dozen conservative leaders have signed a published letter to show their support for the nation of Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as he prepares to visit the U.S.

The open letter, which says, "Israel: You're not alone. We stand with you" has been published in The Wall Street Journal and The Jerusalem Post. The 49 signatories want the Israeli leader to know that millions of Americans stand with Israel and welcome him on his visit to the United States.

"Mr. Prime Minister, be strong and courageous," the letter reads. "We stand with your right to secure Israel's borders without giving away additional land to your openly avowed enemies who do not recognize your right to exist. We believe Israel's ancient prophets who warned of dire consequences to any nation who would divide your land [Joel:3:1-2 [1] For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, [2] I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

Those signing the open letter include former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Dr. James Dobson, syndicated columnist Don Feder, Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver, Janet Porter of Faith2Action, Bill McCartney of Promise Keepers, and Jimmy Draper of LifeWay Christian Resources (Southern Baptist Convention). Also included is Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association (AFA).

"Israel has been the strongest ally of the United States for decades in the Middle East, and they feel all alone right now," the AFA president explains. "And I think it's important that the people in the U.S. who support Israel -- their right to exist, their right to keep the land that they currently have -- need to speak up and speak out."

So Wildmon hopes the president will treat Prime Minister Netanyahu with dignity.
