Norway 'Christian' bomber a 'hammer' for the left [Excerpts]

As Norway grieves in the aftermath of a bombing and shooting massacre that claimed the lives of at least 75 victims, officials say the suspect in custody identifies himself as a right-wing fundamentalist Christian, which has led to a measure of condemnation against Christianity as a religion.

Mourners recently gathered in Oslo for the 76 people so far confirmed killed by the Norwegian gunman. When the news first broke of Anders Behring Breivik's killing spree, many assumed the massacre came at the hand of Islamic terrorists. So many were shocked when it was learned the killer considered himself a Christian.

In the ten years since the September 11 terrorist attacks, Dr. Gary Cass, president of DefendChristians.org, says there have been more than 14,000 attacks by Muslims in the name of Islamic jihad. That said, he warns that the way the news of the killings is being spun will have serious implications on those who take their Christian faith seriously, and it could be used to restrict religious liberties.

"There are opportunists out there who will try to use this to besmirch Christians because this person in some very strange fashion claims to be a Christian," Cass laments. "All the while, he denies being religious. So obviously, we're dealing with someone who's utterly confused about religion. Yet I'm afraid it's going to become the hammer with which the left and the Muslims are going to try to bludgeon us."

Some Islamic organizations and liberal bloggers say Christians are now experiencing what Muslims feel.

Breivik writes extensively in a discovered manifesto of his reverence for the Knights Templar and his desire to save Europe from Marxist and Islamic influences.

Terrorism expert Robert Spencer told OneNewsNow on Monday that the rampage in Norway will only help Islam. Breivik, he said, has "caused more harm to the cause of freedom than anybody could imagine."
