As every perceptive reader had known from the time of its publication, Darwin’s first book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life, far from living up to the promise in its name, did not offer an explanation of the origin of even one species! It did, however, provide “scientific” justification for racism while convincing young Dawkins of evolution and natural selection.
