Dawkins claims that it must be a smooth, gradual development from no eye to a fully developed eye. How can he make this declaration with such confidence? As he so often does, Dawkins offers no evidence to support this definitive statement. What fraction of an eye would be able to contribute to survival? Surely neither 5 percent of an eye, nor 6 percent, nor 20 percent of an eye could see. Would 80 percent aid in survival? To get to 80 percent, the developing eye would have had to get to 1 percent, 2 percent, 3 percent, etc., but none of these would escape natural selection’s hourly scrutinizing rejection. “Gradual” simply won’t work, because the process couldn’t even get started.
