There couldn’t be something out of which everything came, because things are neither self-existent nor eternal. There had to be Someone, an eternal Being, without beginning or end and infinite in power, who created everything out of nothing. This One is not any of the pitiful, physical gods of idol-worshipers that men have made with their own hands. This is the God of the Bible. He revealed Himself to Moses with these words: “I AM THAT I AM [Yahweh-the self-existent One]” and through His prophets declared, “The Lord God made the earth and the heavens.” The Apostle Paul challenged the Greek philosophers on Mars Hill:

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things . . . for in him we live, and move, and have our being. . . . [He even gives breath and life to those who hate Him and reject Him, such as Richard Dawkins and the other New Atheists.] Forasmuch then as we are the offspring [creation] of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent. . . .”
