This perverted interpretation of Scripture is widely used to defend charismatic leaders from the correction they desperately need. The phrase is first found in Scripture when Saul had been twice in David’s hands and his men urged him to kill Saul. David refused, saying, “I will not put forth mind hand against…the Lord’s anointed” (1 Samuel:24:10; see also 26:9,16; 2 Samuel:1:14-16; Psalm:105:15).
