The Bible says nothing about going on the offensive against demonic strongholds. Nor did the apostles and early church ever engage in such a practice. When Paul cast the demon out of the “damsel possessed with a spirit of divination” (Acts:16:16), it was only after she had followed Paul “many days” and he was at last “grieved” by the continued attempt of Satan to identify his ministry with divination. Paul did not travel about on the offensive against demons—ever. The details in Acts demonstrate the living-out of what Christ meant by the following:

“Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man?...Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven…. All power [authority] is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew:12:29; 18:18; 28:18).

“Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John:12:31,32).
