We watched the observance of the 1997 National Day of Prayer presented on TBN. There was no doubt about the sincerity and earnestness of those who participated. The prayers and speeches of those involved (Promise Keepers, the March for Jesus, etc.) evidenced a genuine passion for national unity and blessing upon America. But it was also clear that something was tragically amiss, for unity alone was the defining element.
