In her excellent expose of psychology, Manufacturing Victims, Dr. Tana Dineen points out that “what the Psychology Industry has persuaded people to believe and what has actually been proven are quite different.” She suggests that if psychologists “were to look honestly at what they are doing it would cause them to have doubts about their effectiveness, their worth, their self-image and their career.” In fact, she points out that scientific studies show that therapy is ineffective and unnecessary, and can actually be harmful.
