Jay Gary writes, “For on January 1, 2001, we will celebrate the start of the third millennium of the Christian era. Truly kings and prophets longed to see our day!” What an astonishing statement! In fact, kings and prophets and true Christians through the centuries have longed for Christ to take them to heaven as He promised, not to see the world continue for a third millennium since Christ. That the early Christians were watching and waiting and hoping for Christ to take them at any moment to heaven is clear from many scriptures in the New Testament, among them the following:

“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning, and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord…that when he cometh and knocketh they may open to him immediately…. Be ye therefore ready also, for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not” (Luke:12:35,36,40).

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also” (John:14:3).

“For our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven, from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall change our vile body [at the rapture and resurrection], that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body…” (Philippians:3:20,21).

“…how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians:1:9-10).

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first; then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians:4:16-18).

“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy:4:8).

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ…” (Titus:2:13).

“…unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation” (Hebrews:9:28).

“…we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (1 John:3:2,3).

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory” (Colossians:3:2-4).
