Nuggets from "Whatever Happened to Heaven?" by Dave Hunt

Rare is the Catholic who has any real assurance of heaven. It will only be reached, if ever, at the end of a long and painful sojourn in purgatory. So much depends upon the sacraments administered by the Church, one's condition at the time of death, the faithfulness of surviving relatives in engaging the church to continue Masses for one's soul after death, the intercession of numerous Saints, and the influence of Mary. Little if any hope is placed in Christ himself, the One who came from heaven, who told us about it, who paid for our sins to take us there, and who is Himself the only way to His Father's house of many mansions.
