Pastoring a Small Church | thebereancall.org

I have to admit, I have never been much of a mega-church guy. Certainly, God can use them, and to many, they offer anonymity, big productions, and big programs but very little opportunity to spend with the leadership. In Andy Stanley's eyes, I am "so stinkin' selfish." It is a comment he apologized for after a great deal of public pressure. It is interesting that, "Andy Stanley Apologizes for Saying People Who Go to Small Churches 'Are So Stinkin' Selfish'" notes, "a study was released indicating that smaller churches tend to have more involved membership than large ones." As I read "3 Myths About the Small Church Pastor," it is an important encouragement to my pastor, other pastors like him, and their congregations. The 3 myths Colin Maynard debunks are:

Myth #1: We’re second class
Myth #2: We lack capacity
Myth #3: We hate it here and want to leave

His final comment applies to all believers really:

"Some may view my new role as 'moving up.' But I only see it as a different role God is using in different ways. Pastor (and Christian), there is no insignificant ministry, whether you serve behind the scenes and out of the limelight or in the most prominent church on the planet. Just be faithful wherever God calls you, and be content to stay there until He takes you elsewhere.”
