Modern medicine has taken the same blind leap of faith into mysticism. With its deceptive and seductive claim that it involves the treatment of “mind, body, and spirit,” Holistic medicine is growing in popularity and acceptability. In fact the new concern for “spirit” in health and education has come about as part of the astonishing transformation of Western society through its acceptance of Eastern mysticism.

Many Christians are usually only too eager to assume that anyone using such words as “God,” “Christ,” or “spirit” agrees with their own understanding of these terms, especially if such an assumption would appear to put “science” on their side. Obviously, however, “spirit” is not a scientific or medical term, but a religious one. Yet how many Christians ask their doctor or psychologist what religion involving “spirit” is he passing off on his patients in the name of the latest medical science
