Hungry for the Word?
It is always a good thing to check our spiritual appetite. Jesus declares in Matthew:4:4 and Luke:4:4 that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. If we are not hungry for the Word of God, we are on a course leading to spiritual malnutrition. That condition, as it becomes pervasive in the church, will bring about the prophetic fulfillment of 2 Timothy:4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” Although we know that such a thing will take place, it will be a collective fulfillment, i.e., involving the majority of Christians.
Who will not be included? Those believers who “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter:2:2). Just as a baby cries out for milk, we must have that kind of appetite for God’s Word. That is the basis for spiritual maturity and protection.
