Even if we are successful at helping someone turn away from atheism, it doesn’t necessarily put them in a much better position regarding their eternal destiny. Eternal life is granted not to those who simply believe in “God” but only to those who believe in the God of the Bible and repent of their sins, placing 100 percent of their trust in the death, burial, and Resurrection of God’s Son—Jesus Christ. Simply believing in God (or a god) might be a good start, but if that’s as far as it goes, the seeker is still hopelessly lost.
